Genesis and application.
Steering system has been an integral part of vehicles since the beginning of automotive history. It plays a key role in ensuring safe and precise directional control. Its tasks encompass a range of functions designed to enable the driver to manoeuvre the vehicle efficiently in different road conditions. The main task of the system is, of course, to implement the vehicle driver's wish to maintain or change the vehicle's path. By turning the steering wheel, this movement is transmitted to the steering wheels (usually the front wheels), allowing the vehicle to turn in the desired direction. Steering system It also provides the driver with feedback on road conditions, such as wheel resistance, unevenness of the road surface and tyre grip. This enables him to better assess the road situation and adjust his driving accordingly. The steering system should also minimise the transmission of vibrations and shocks from the road surface to the steering wheel, which increases driving comfort and reduces driver fatigue. In order to provide the driver with greater comfort and reduce the force required to turn the steering wheel, the following have become widespread over time power steering systems. Initially, these were simple hydraulic power steering designs in which the power steering pump was driven from the vehicle engine. A development of this design is the electro-hydraulically assisted system, which uses a pump driven by an electric motor (EHPS/EPHS). More recent systems are designs with electric power steering of the transmission or steering column (EPS), which allow a range of additional functions such as lane correction, lane assist and parking assist.
If you notice problems with the power steering, choose a proven reconditioning the steering column or transmission before a failure immobilises the vehicle.
Construction and principle of operation.
Vehicle steering system consists of several main elements:
- Steering wheel
- Steering column (electric power steering possible)
- Steering rack (hydraulic or electric power steering possible)
- Power steering pump (mechanically or electrically driven)
- Tie rods and tie rods ends
- Steering knuckles and suspension components.
Power steering can occur in the configurations listed below.
Hydraulically assisted systems:
- with mechanical pump
- with electro-hydraulic pump
Electrically assisted systems (EPS):
- power steering rack
- power steering column
By choosing our company, you can be sure that steering system reconditioning will be carried out to the highest quality standards.
Electric power steering column.
In this solution, the power of the electric motor is transmitted via a suitable mechanical transmission and clutch to the steering column shaft. The system has an electronic controller that ensures the proper management of the system and the monitoring of its correct operation, i.e. diagnostic functions. A number of input signals recorded by sensors such as: Torque sensor on the steering wheel, steering angle sensor, vehicle speed sensor and more.
Electric power steering rack.
In these designs, the electric motor is located on or inside the steering rack housing. Through an appropriately selected gear ratio, the movement of the motor transmits the power steering force to a toothed rack located inside the housing. In order to properly manage the operation of the power steering system, the electronic controller receives a number of input signals such as, vehicle speed, steering torque, steering angle and others. The controller also has diagnostic functions and records errors related to system malfunctions.
Hydraulic power steering gear.
To support the movement of the toothed bar, hydraulic fluid (oil) is used, which is supplied to the gearbox at a sufficiently high pressure. Therefore part of steering gear works as a hydraulic cylinder, with a piston on the toothed bar. As such, many components are fitted with a number of appropriate seals. An important role is played by the distributor (also known as the distributor), which contains a valve that directs the hydraulic oil into the appropriate cylinder chamber after just a slight movement of the steering wheel. By virtue of its function, the distributor is also equipped with a number of appropriate seals. The following are responsible for generating the high pressure power steering pumpwhich can be driven mechanically from an internal combustion engine or electrically.
Electro-hydraulic pump (EHPS/EPHS).
This type of pump is driven by an electric motor, so its performance is not dependent on the speed of the internal combustion engine. The pump module is usually made up of a number of integrated components such as a fluid reservoir, a high-pressure pump (usually a vane or gear pump), an electronic controller and an electric motor. The electronic controller adjusts the power steering based on several inputs, such as vehicle speed, engine speed and steering sensor readings, among others.
What does steering system reconditioning look like?
We are aware of the importance of maintaining appropriate standards and strict quality control in the process of regeneration of the steering system due to its direct impact on driving safety. Every component that is remanufactured must be carefully inspected for wear, damage and quality of materials. The use of high-quality replacement parts and the precise execution of all remanufacturing procedures are key to ensuring that the steering will operate reliably and safely.
As a rule, the process regeneration of steering gear and each component we deal with consists of the following steps:
- Preliminary verification
- Cleaning
- Verification after cleaning
- Disassembly into components
- Verification of components
- Replacement of damaged and critical parts of a component
- Assembly of components, completion of subassembly
- Quality control
- Final diagnostic test
- Evaluation of functional test results
These procedures ensure that every repaired part meets strict safety standards. Rely on proven specialists - our steering system repair is a guarantee of safe and secure driving.
Steering rack remanufacturing with hydraulic assistance.
Steering gearbox reconditioning with hydraulic power steering consists primarily of restoring its tightness. All seals are replaced and all mechanical components, including the toothed bar, pinion, distributor, housing, etc., are checked for damage or wear and replaced if necessary. All steering gear components are inspected in detail for wear and tear and the presence of mechanical damage such as abrasions or cracks. The degree of wear on the pinion teeth and the toothed bar is inspected. The alignment of the rack is also checked. It is often necessary to grind the mating surfaces of the seals very carefully due to local wear or corrosion. Faulty bearings are also replaced. Components that qualify for re-use are thoroughly cleaned and all damaged parts are replaced with new ones. After repair, each gearbox undergoes a test on a dedicated test benchwhich is designed to check its tightness and the force of the booster acting on the slat as it moves in both directions.
Remanufacturing of electric power steering (EPS) columns and racks.
In the case of electrically assisted steering gear The repair consists mainly of inspecting and replacing defective mechanical and electronic components. Very often, the steering sensor is damaged. Sensor replacement requires precision and the appropriate diagnostic equipment to calibrate it. A problem can also occur in the electronic system that manages the operation of the power steering gearbox or steering column. Fixing this type of fault usually requires the replacement of the electronic components of the power steering controller. After repair operation of the gearbox or steering column is checked on a specially designed test bench. The test consists of several or more steps, during which the operating conditions of the power steering system are simulated for various driving conditions - car park manoeuvres, city traffic, motorway.
Remanufacturing of electrohydraulic pumps (EHPS/EPHS).
Our positions also allow checking the operation of the electrically driven pumpswhich are components of electrohydraulic power steering systems. The most common malfunctions of power steering pumps are leaks, reduced performance, noisy operation and mechanical failures. Typically pump repair involves replacing a set of seals, bearings and other worn mechanical components. Electrical or electronic components (electric motor, electronic pump control unit and others) may also be damaged due to leaks and leaks. After repair, each pump undergoes a performance test on a test bench, during which its operation is simulated corresponding to different values of vehicle speed.
